Obama's health care bill:final push for health care reform
WASHINGTON, (KUNA) -- Obama health care reform: Obama urges to quickly complete health care reform. In what was being described as his final health care legislative proposal, President Barack Obama on Wednesday urged the US Congress to complete its yearlong work on his signature domestic priority so he can sign it into law.speech videoObama's fellow Democrats in the US House and Senate were expected to deploy a strategy involving a special budget maneuver known as reconciliation, which would allow the legislation to pass with only 51 votes in the Senate, instead of the 60-vote supermajority needed under regular Senate procedures.Video Results of Obama Speech
"At stake right now is not just our ability to solve this problem, but our ability to solve any problem," the President said in remarks at the White House. "The American people want to know if it is still possible for Washington to look out for their interests and their future. They are waiting for us to act. They are waiting for us to lead." Obama said that while he does not know how the issue will play politically, "I know it is right, and so I ask Congress to finish its work, and I look forward to signing this reform into law." Most Republicans continue to oppose the package, even though Obama on Tuesday proposed to incorporate a handful of their ideas into the bill, including funding state grants on medical malpractice reform and curbing waste, fraud and abuse in the health care system.
