NEW DELHI: In a case that reminds one of the horror story of Joseph Fritzl in Austria, a man here raped his own daughter over a period while still living with his wife. He even fathered her child, who was later abandoned by the victim. The girl, now 21, suffered in silence for years and then mustered enough courage to file a complaint against him.

Fritzl had confined his daughter to a cellar in his house for 24 years and repeatedly raped her, fathering seven children.

After a four-year long trial, a sessions court has convicted the man in this city for raping and threatening (criminal intimidation) his daughter. The court has fixed April 19 for pronouncement of sentence.To ensure that the child, who was abandoned by the victim, gets a good life, the court has sought documents from the Child Welfare Committee for his adoption at the next hearing.
